The Backflow Prevention Control Plan is a major component of the broader Cross-Connection Control Plan. Its goal is to avoid the backflow of pollutants (non health hazard) and contaminants (health hazard) in our water system, and to comply with the CA Waterboards Regulations

When the pressure in a non-potable water source (such as a boiler) is greater than the pressure in the drinking water system, contaminants from the non-potable source can be pushed into your drinking water.

When there is a sudden drop in the drinking water system pressure, such as during firefighting or a water main break, a vacuum or siphoning effect can draw non-potable water and any contaminants present into your drinking water.

A backflow prevention assembly must be installed by a certified operator right after each water meter.
It will be accessible above ground for easy testing and inspection
It will be inspected annually by a certified operator to report proper operations to the CA waterboard
